Who said a pot or hanging basket must contain bedding plants such as impatiens and geraniums?
For a fresh approach to your hanging baskets, why not plant up with herbs such as Thyme (Thymus serpyllum ‘Annie Hall’), with its tiny pink flowers? Add Rosemary (Rosmarinus Officinalis’ sittinghurst blue ‘) mixed with Salvia argentea, with it’s flat silver leaves, to this combination. You can add colour with viola, dianthus – this could be Doris, a nice old fashioned dianthus, or houndspool ruby which will give a colourful combination which smells divine and is useful too. Place outside the kitchen door.
For a riot of colour in a pot why not mix the silver leaved Cineraria maritime with Lychnis coronaria with its magenta flowers purple nemesia for a pretty trailing plant for height salvia farina era.
